Everybody loves Summer and Photos and Pretty things

Ahhhh…. summertime.

I’m reminded of a song from my Sunday School days:

Oh what do you do in the summer time? Do you  (I can’t remember the list of things, but it was long and made up of stuff that kids do in the summer.)
Oh what do you do in the summer time? Is that what you do? So do I!

Ballgames, camping, working in the garden, slapping mosquitoes, endless hours laying by the pool waving for the cabana boy to refresh your juice drink…

Family reunions. Weddings.
Is that what you do? So do I!

We put together these two bits of gorgeousness for our friend Trudi. One for Mother’s Day and the other for her mother in law’s 99th birthday.
Trudi brought us a big stack of really cool photos to look at, but she already knew which ones she wanted to use.  So we scanned them and  arranged them and made a nice little montage with an antique background  for each block. Then we printed and mounted them to the blocks.
The photos were not originally sepia toned, but by tinting them it made them blend together better.
(Pay no attention to that messy worktable in the background.)
Wouldn’t these make a wonderful giveaway or presentation for a family reunion?
How about a wedding?  Anniversary party?

Now that you’re all inspired to make something like this for your own family, click over to Writings on the Wall to this page right here and see how we can make this happen for you.

Glass blocks ain’t just for Christmas, you know!

Happy Birthday to the Greatest Dad

What a great day!

I had a chance to take an hour out of the day and take my dad to lunch.
Today was his 75th birthday, and even though I see him almost every day, sometimes twice a day, I don’t often take the time and opportunity to tell him what a great dad he’s been to me.

We went to the restaurant just down the street and enjoyed the lunch special and a chance to visit for a while.
I had to smile. My dad is a big guy, but he’s a regular there and evidently well liked cuz the waitress kept calling him Teddy Bear.
Yep, that’s my dad.

I don’t have a fancy layout for this one, but it sums it up very well:

Sometimes the poorest man leaves his children the richest inheritance.

It's the 2009 version of cave painting

When I arrived at the shop Monday morning, this was what I found.
It would seem that the “white board” fairy visited over the weekend and left me a present.

I think it’s absolutely precious, so I took its picture before someone comes along and erases it.

Skylar is a nine year old beanpole, and she is quite the social butterfly. As you can see, she’s a cutey too.
Notice the stylish hair that swoops over one eye.

skylar_whiteboardThe part that I really love is her message at the bottom:

“To Becky and 60 other Hathaways.”
Yeah, she’s got that right… there’s about that many of us.

Just to deepen your whiteboard envy, I picked up this little gem at the thrift store for $2.00.
It’s worth 20 times that much just for the picture that’s on it now.

It's the Little Moments that make Life Big

little_momentss I’m busy like a little squirrel hiding acorns in a hollow tree. But, I am much bigger and not nearly as wiry as a little squirrel and I have no acorns or a hollow tree. No bushy tail either, come to think of it.

What I DO have is a whole bunch of new designs that I’m deliriously happy about and a whole new updated website that I am very impatient to launch. (coming soon to a computer near you!)

Today I’m sharing one of my new faves.  So cute for a shelf or photo arrangement.
We’ve sold hundreds of the quote “Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.”
I love that one myself, but this one speaks of the little intimate moments:
When a child slips their hand into yours.
A smile and a wink from that one guy that just flips your heart upside down.
Sunrise, Starlight, Moonlight, Laughter, a quiet moment with some really good chocolate…

That’s the stuff that makes life great.
